Profile
I was born in Kumamoto city, Kumamoto pref., Japan in Dec. 1971.
After working for a company, I started to study soft matter physics at the university.
I got ph.D in 2007, worked as a post-doc in prof. C. Creton's group of ESPCI (Paris), and am now working as an project associate professor in prof. T. Murakami's group.

Research

1. Research interest My current interest lies in the physics of adhesion and sliding friction of soft viscoelastic materials like elastomers or gels. My approaches are phenomenology (continuum theory) and experiment (optical observation), trying to understand the dynamical process of local deformation and fracture of such materials. In future, I hope to develop fundamentals of non-equillibrium physics for the above phenomena.

Research topics
- Adesion/debonding and cavitation dymanics in soft viscoelastic materials (experiment, theory).
- Mechanism in adhesion-friction of gecko (theory).
- Pattern formation in sliding friction of sticky gels (experiment, theory).
- Statistical mechanics of slow earthquakes (experiment, theory).
- Buckling phenomena in swelling process of hydrogel particles (experiment).
- Research & development of artificial cartilage.
